Pakistan Commonwealth Games 2026 was much more than just one medal. From Fatima Zahra becoming the first Pakistani woman to win a Commonwealth Games boxing medal to Faiqa Riaz breaking a national record, here are the stories that defined Pakistan Commonwealth Games 2026.

Arshad Nadeem’s Unexpected Setback

Olympic and previous Commonwealth champion Arshad Nadeem failed to defend his title and finished ninth in the men’s javelin throw final, missing the top eight and ending his campaign with a best throw of 78.63 metres. He failed to reach the 80-metre mark but still remains Pakistan’s number one hope and pride. Pakistan’s campaign in Glasgow began with high expectations after his  success in previous events, but this result showed how competitive the event had become.

Fatima Zahra Creates History for Pakistan

At just 21 years old, Fatima Zahra gave Pakistan one of its proudest moments by becoming the country’s first woman to win a Commonwealth Games boxing medal. She defeated New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson 5–0 in the quarter-finals, securing Pakistan’s only medal of the Games. Her achievement was one of the biggest highlights of Pakistan Commonwealth Games 2026 and is expected to inspire more young female athletes.

Faiqa Riaz: The Record Breaker

Faiqa Riaz delivered one of the biggest achievements in athletics by breaking Pakistan’s 16-year-old national record in the women’s 100 metres. She set a new record of 11.64 seconds at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Faiqa Riaz finished third in her heat, missing the semi-final by just 0.12 seconds. The previous record of 11.81 seconds was held by Olympian Naseem Hameed in 2010, making this one of the standout performances of Pakistan Commonwealth Games 2026.

The Athletes Who Kept Fighting

Not every story ends with a medal. Ansar Abbas finished 18th in the long jump with a season-best 7.06 metres at the Commonwealth Games 2026. Muhammad Yasir competed alongside Arshad Nadeem and finished 14th in the javelin qualification round, narrowly missing the final with a throw of 74.36 metres. National record holder Feryal Farooq competed in the Commonwealth Games discus final with a best throw of 38.66 metres. Their performances reflected the determination of Pakistan’s athletes despite falling short of the podium.

Pakistan’s 3000m national record holder, Muhammad Akhtar, represented the country in the men’s 5000 metres final, finishing 22nd. Reaching the final showed that Pakistan is making progress in distance running.

What Pakistan Commonwealth Games 2026 Means for the Future

Although Pakistan won only one medal, the Commonwealth Games also brought a national record, a historic boxing medal, and valuable experience for several athletes. These performances showed encouraging progress across different sports and highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s emerging athletes. With continued investment and support, these performances could lead to even greater success in future international competitions.
