Women’s T20WC Winners

The Women’s T20 World Cup tournament’s ninth edition starts on October 3 and will conclude on October 20. The tournament is being held in UAE and it will be played in Dubai and Sharjah. Ten teams are participating in this tournament, with Australia as the defending champion, who won the last game. Australia won their sixth title last event. We will look back at all of the Women’s T20WC Winners.

It is easy to say that Australia have won six titles. The other two are England (in the inaugural edition in 2009) and West Indies (in 2016). We will look through how they have won each of the tournaments.

England achieved victory by scoring a difficult total of 86/4, with Sarah Taylor (39) and Claire Taylor (39) both making significant contributions. Katherine Brunt’s outstanding bowling display (taking 3 wickets for 6 runs) played a key role in restricting New Zealand to 85 runs, leading to a convincing 4-wicket victory.

2010 –  Australia

Venue for the final match: Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Australia (106/8) defeated New Zealand (103/6) by 3 runs.

Australia successfully defended a small total of 106 in an exciting final match to emerge victorious. Ellyse Perry played a vital role by defending 14 runs in the final over, securing a 3-run win. Perry’s outstanding bowling and strong fielding contributed to Australia securing their first T20 World Cup victory.

2012 – Australia

Australia (142/4) defeated England (138/9) by 4 runs.

Australia secured a strong total of 142/4, mainly due to Jess Cameron’s 45 runs from 34 deliveries. England, although some players performed well, missed the target by just 4 runs. Australia successfully defended their title thanks to their disciplined bowling and fielding, particularly towards the end of the game.

2014 – Australia

Australia (106/4) defeated England (105/8) by 6 wickets.

How They Won: Australia dominated the final by restricting England to 105/8, thanks to Sarah Coyte’s 3/16. Meg Lanning’s 44 helped Australia chase down the target comfortably, securing their third consecutive title.

West Indies (149/2) defeated Australia (148/5) by 8 wickets.

How They Won: Australia set a formidable target of 148/5, but West Indies chased it down brilliantly with 149/2, led by Hayley Matthews (66) and Stafanie Taylor (59). It was a historic win as West Indies secured their first Women’s T20 World Cup title, breaking Australia’s dominance.

How They Won: Australia dominated the final in front of a record-breaking crowd of 86,174. Alyssa Healy (75 off 39) and Beth Mooney (78* off 54) powered Australia to a massive total of 184/4. India faltered under the pressure and were bowled out for 99, giving Australia a massive 85-run victory and their fifth title.

Australia (156/6) defeated South Africa (137/6) by 19 runs.

How They Won: Australia set a challenging total of 156/6, led by Beth Mooney’s unbeaten 74 off 53 balls. South Africa fought hard but fell short, managing only 137/6 in their 20 overs. Australia’s strong bowling attack, led by Megan Schutt and Ashleigh Gardner, ensured their sixth World Cup title.
