Sensational Shamar Joseph; Leading the pace attack upfront in a win against Australia

Shamar Joseph’s heroics assisted West Indies clinch an epic triumph at the iconic Gabba in Brisbane on Sunday, 28 January. Joseph’s extraordinary first session spell on Day 4 of the second Test helped West Indies win their first first-ever match win in Gabba. Shamar bowled a startling spell of 7/68, a day after he had hobbled off in tears after Mitchell Starc pummeled him on the toe with a searing yorker.

West Indies defeated Australia by 8 runs in a final-wicket thriller in the second and final Test match of the series. Chasing 156 on Day 4, Australia was in a good position as Steve Smith and Cameron Green were standing unbeaten. However, Shamar’s spell gave an upper hand to The West Indies. Smith scored 91 while Green scored 42 but that was not enough for Australia. Apart from Shamar, Alzarri Joseph also scalped two wickets.

Joseph reached speeds of close to 150 kph (93 mph) and tore through the Australian middle order in a breathtaking spell. It was the second time in the match that Head was dismissed first ball.

Smith then played a superb slapshot for a six off Alzarri Joseph over fine leg and brought the target down to single digits. But Shamar Joseph would have the final say as he uprooted Hazlewood’s off stump with another pacey delivery.
