Indian Sports history would have barely seen much success. But the last few months have been emphatic for them. Their athletes in different sporting events have shown their true skill and hard work. Defeating the best of the best, they proved that it won’t be so easy to compete against them in the future
Let’s discuss some of their historical outings this year in world sports.
Thomas Cup Win: Indian Badminton Stars Script History:
The highlight for this year would be the famous Thomas Cup victory. India shocked the event’s royalty, Indonesia with a 3-0 win. Dismantling the 14-time champion was a tough task indeed. But the Indian Team’s grit and determination made them achieve this feat. They became only the sixth nation to win the coveted trophy.
This win produced new heroes for their sports history, which was quite difficult in a cricket-mad country. This memorable victory will tend to do for badminton, what the 1983 cricket world cup win did for Indian cricket.
Nikhat Zareen scripts history: Wins Gold at Women’s World Boxing Championship
Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen lived up to the expectations of fans and won a coveted Gold in the 52kg division. A 5-0 facile victory against Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas saw the boxer add another Gold to the cabinet. Indian women have had a tough run-in World sports but this victory positively impacted the women’s wings of Indian Sports. This is the country’s first gold medal at the championship since Olympic boxer MC Mary Kom won in the year 2018. Kom has been a six-time champion at the tournament.
Praggnanandhaa wins Norway chess open event:
Grand Master Praggnanandhaa defeated Magnus Carlsen earlier this year and has again shown his class by winning yet another chess championship, scoring 7.5 points from 9 rounds. The 16-year-old, the top seed, was in great form right through the tournament. In the final round, he got the better of IM V Praneeth.
Neeraj Chopra: A Real Hero for Indian Sports
And how can we forget about the famous Neeraj Chopra. Talking about winning medals, his name comes out on top among the active Indian athletes. Since winning the Gold in the Olympics last year, Neeraj has not looked back. He has won medals on top of medals in recent International javelin throw competitions. He has won Gold in Kuortane Games, Finland. This was despite having an injury.
Conclusion: The results have favored Indian Sports and this could not have been possible without the hard work they put into this. We hope that Indian Sports continue to shine the way they are.
