Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has questioned Indian reverse swing by questioning their ability to turn the ball in the 15th over during their T20 World Cup win against Australia in St. Lucia.

Arshdeep was the pick of India’s bowlers, grabbing 3/37. He dismissed David Warner in the first over of the innings and proceeded to send back Matthew Wade and Tim David in the 18th. At one stage, Australia needed 81 runs in eight overs and with eight wickets in hand before they lost the plot, courtesy of some tight bowling by Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. Arshdeep Singh bowled a crucial second spell as well, taking two wickets and giving 21 runs in the 16th and 18th overs combined.
Saleem Malik and Inzamam-ul-haq on 24 News exchanged views about Indian Reverse Swing
In a cricket analysis show, on Pakistan’s 24 News HD channel, legends Salim Malik and Inzmam Ul Haq were talking about India’s performance at the prestigious tournament, when Inzamam questioned Indian bowlers’ reverse swing in the match against Australia.
Salim Malik praised speedster Arshdeep Singh and his reverse swing, which was more than a puzzle for Australian batters. He said when he saw the ball moving in the opposite direction, he understood that the men in blue were going to win that game, to which former Pakistan’s Great added
“You can’t ignore the fact that when Arshdeep Singh was bowling the 15th over, the ball was reverse-swinging. Isn’t it too early for the new ball to start reversing? The ball was ready to reverse by the 12th-13th over. Umpires should keep their eyes open. We also know a bit about reverse swing. If Arshdeep Singh is able to reverse swing the ball, some serious work was done on the ball,” Inzamam said on a special show called ‘World Cup Hungama.
Inzamam further explained why he was surprised by Arshdeep reversing the ball.”The thing with reverse swing is that if Bumrah does it — his action is such — I can understand. The ball needs to be set up in a way that it reverses. I can understand that maybe the ball was hit a lot, the pitch was such. The ball could have been impacted after being hit around the stands. But whatever that was happening, could have been carefully monitored,” Inzamam pointed out.
Replying to Inzamam’s claims, Saleem Malik added that the officials always have their eyes shut when it comes to certain teams including India.

India is not the only team that has been accused of “tampering” at the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup. During the Pakistan vs USA game earlier in the tournament, former South African fast bowler Rusty Theron accused Haris Rauf of scratching the ball.
