Novak-Djokovic-2022-Season

Novak Djokovic was very impressive throughout this year. Although he encountered some ups and downs, he was dominant for the most part. He was considered favourite in all of the tournaments he played in 2022.

Let’s review the 2022 season for the most prolific player of tennis.

Australian Open Dilemma:

The worst experience for Novak would’ve been when he was barred from playing the Australian Open. Being one of the favourites to win the tournament, his trip to Australia was cut short after his vaccination certificate for COVID-19. His case was on trial in an Australian court, where he was handed a 3-year visa ban and was deported from the country.

Return to Dubai Tennis Championships:

Djokovic made a comeback in the Dubai Tennis Championships where he made it to the Quarter-finals and was ousted by Jiri Vesely. But overall his tournament went well and he was ready for challenges to come.

Upsets for Novak Djokovic:

Novak Djokovic suffered some monumental defeats at the hands of youngsters and experienced players. The worst one would be that of Monte Carlo where Davidovich Fokina knocked him out in 3 sets, in the Round of 32.

In the Serbian Open, he fared comparatively better. He made it to the finals where Rublev defeated him. But Djokovic was satisfied with the way he played.

Novak Djokovic faced a semi-final exit at the Madrid Open. But this defeat was not for long as his first title in 2022 was not far away.

Glory in the Italian Open:

Djokovic opened up his account for titles in 2022. This time his rival was Stefano Tsitsipas. But Novak Djokovic was too good for Stefan and the Serbian star won the event convincingly by not even dropping a set. It was his 6th Italian Open title.

French Open defeat:

Novak suffered another defeat at the hands of his arch-rival Rafael Nadal who was in sublime form throughout. During his clash with the Spanish sensation, he was looking quite frustrated and even smacked the net after his balls were hitting it. This act resulted in a loud boo by the crowd. He faced a backlash at this.

Wimbledon Win:

Eventually, Novak won the only major title in Wimbledon and defeated Nick Krygios in the finals. This was a breath of Fresh air for the Serbian Star. Three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic’s score in the final was, 4–6, 6–3, 6–4, 7–6 to win the gentlemen’s singles tennis title at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships.

Dominant Finish to the season:

Novak Djokovic was not allowed to participate at the US Open 2022 either, but he won three titles Tel Aviv Open, Astana, and Turin and final participation at Paris-Bercy in his last four tournaments of the year. The triumph at the ATP Finals in northern Italy in particular put a bold exclamation mark behind the performance of the fifth-seeded player in the ranking.
