Chelsea's-Interim-Manager

After days of speculation regarding the vacant managerial position at the Chelsea Football Club, Frank Lampard was finally named as Chelsea’s interim manager. The Blues legend has been handed over the managerial duties for the remainder of the Premier League season.

Frank Lampard returns to Stamford Bridge for his second managerial stint with Chelsea. Earlier, Graham Potter was sacked by Chelsea owners after a shock 2-0 defeat at home against Aston Villa. Lampard will be managing his second Premier League club this season, after he was sacked by Everton in January 2023.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea Legacy

Over the years, Frank Lampard has been a great servant for the Chelsea Football Club. During his 13-year playing career with the Blues, he won 13 major titles for them, and he is still their all-time top scorer. He established himself as a true Chelsea legend.

His love for the West London club was not just limited to his playing days. After retiring from football, he stepped into the football managerial world. And after impressing in the debut season of his managerial career, he was approached by Chelsea to be their next manager.

Lampard was named Chelsea manager on 4 July 2019. He managed 84 games for the Blues across all competitions. The first half of his managerial spell with Chelsea was quite fruitful and promising as he guided them to a Top 4 finish in the Premier League and reached the FA Cup final, eventually losing out to Arsenal.

Unfortunately, he could not deliver according to expectations in the following season. As a result, he was relieved of his managerial duties on 25th January 2021.

Can Lampard go beyond Chelsea’s Interim Manager Role?

Frank Lampard has only been appointed Chelsea’s manager till the end of the current season. Chelsea owners are actively looking for a permanent manager for next season. With the likes of Luis Enrique and Julian Naglesmnan being heavily linked with the club.

But Lampard has a chance to prove to Chelsea owners that he is the best man for the job. Chelsea is currently languishing in 11th place in the Premier League table. With 9 games remaining in the season, they find themselves 14 points off 4th placed Manchester United. Based on their current league standing, it seems certain that the Blues will not be able to make it to Europe next season.

But fortunately, they are still in the quarter-finals of this season’s UEFA Champions League. They face defending Champions Real Madrid. Real Madrid has looked strong this season and it will be very tough to defeat them. But if Lampard can guide the Blues to UCL triumph he can emerge as a strong candidate for the permanent managerial position next season.

It has been a dismal campaign for Chelsea FC. With 9 games remaining in the Premier League season, they seem to be heading in the wrong direction. Given the current situation, Frank Lampard seems to be the right man to be Chelsea’s manager, given his long-term association with the Blues and his relationship with some of the current Chelsea players. Chelsea fans will be hoping that their club legend can rescue them once again.
