The Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate has been raging for years. Even when the two stars are in the twilight of their careers, it is still a hot topic among the fans as to who is the better player. But our wait will be over soon when the final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 is played in December, according to a Supercomputer.

Both players have defined the game for more than a decade and are the most popular figures in football by a country-mile.

Their respective fandoms have debated for many years as to who is truly the great among the two. Who is the true G.O.A.T? Who is the biggest football star of this generation?

We have seen endless stats, numbers after numbers churned by their fans to settle the debate but to no avail. All this could be about to change if the Supercomputer’s prediction proves right come December 18.

Supercomputer Predicts Messi vs Ronaldo in World Cup Final With a Winner As Well

Cristiano Ronaldo seemingly surged ahead of the ‘who’s better debate?’ when he heroically led Portugal to the Euro 2016 title. Although he was injured in the final, it was his sheer will that dragged them there in the first place.

Ronaldo fans took this as a holy grail and pointed at his Argentine rival’s lack of international trophies.

But Lionel Messi roared back for his nation and for his fans. The PSG forward led  Argentina to a first Copa America title in nearly 30 years and with it breaking his own international hoodoo. We were back to square one.

Although there is a possibility of Argentina meeting Portugal in Qatar when the World Cup kicks off, the Supercomputer has taken things up a notch.

The BCA Research has sampled matches from the previous four World Cups and each team’s national ranking to make the prediction.

According to the Supercomputer, Messi will face Ronaldo in the FIFA World Cup final, with the little Argentine being predicted to lead his country to glory in his last World Cup appearance.

Well, that may be heartbreaking for Ronaldo’s fans to hear.

This prediction is the stuff of dreams or nightmares depending on which side of the fence you sit on.

Still, this will be a final to beat all finals and an iconic moment for the sport and fans worldwide. If we actually get to see a Messi vs Ronaldo final, the world will come to a standstill but maybe the fans of the Manchester United star will feel a bit uneasy because of how this prediction ends.

This could also put an end to the much heated debate over the years as to who is the greatest player among the two stars.

Cristiano Ronaldo vs Lionel Messi debate has defined football in the modern era

One thing for sure is that both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the greatest players of the modern day game. The number of goals, assists, and the sheer number of times we have witnessed these two perform absolute magic on the field is unbelievable.

Fans of both players try to put their favourite over the other, but it knows no end. If Messi recently eclipsed Ronaldo in terms of Ballon d’Or awards, the Portuguese still had the most number of goals in Champions League history.

While many fans also bring up the fact that Ronaldo has won the league in England and Spain and performed in two toughest divisions, Messi fans point to the fact that he has won more trophies in his career than Ronaldo.

The debate may never end but if the Supercomputer prediction does come true it may leave either set of fans with no comeback.

With Messi already announcing that this will be his last World Cup and Ronaldo at 37, we should enjoy watching these two legends perform for their country as they bid for glory in Qatar.
