Why Sheryar Iyer and KishanKishan were not given BCCI’s 2024 men’s Central Contract

The big news remained the omission of Shreyas Iyer and wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan from the central contract despite the pair being an integral part of the multiple formats of the national team. In last year’s retainer, Iyer was in Grade B while Kishan was part of Grade C. The BCCI has walked the talk and dropped Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the latest list of central contracts.

The cautionary note was issued against the backdrop of prominent players such as Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and Deepak Chahar displaying hesitancy towards participating in the current Ranji Trophy season.

This reluctance raised questions regarding their dedication to domestic cricket and resulted in their exodus from domestic Cricket. This exclusion of the players from the BCCI’s 2024 men Central contracts on the pretext of not showing seriousness to domestic Cricket speaks volumes about the assertion of the board on domestic Cricket.
